Working out your eligibility comes down to counting the days you've spent in Canada against IRCC's 1,095-day rule, then subtracting anything that doesn't count. The calculator above does this math for you, but it helps to know what's happening behind the numbers.

The calculation looks at a fixed five-year window: the five years immediately before the date you sign your application. Only days that fall inside that window count, so time spent in Canada six or seven years ago won't help you today, no matter how long you lived here at the time. Within that window, not every day carries the same weight. Days as a permanent resident count in full, days before you became a PR count at half value up to a cap, and days spent outside Canada don't count at all, even short trips. You also need at least two years of permanent resident status before you can meet the requirement, so a very recent landing date means you won't hit 1,095 days no matter how much prior time you've banked.

How This Calculator Works

The calculator counts your days in Canada the same way IRCC does. Every day you've spent in Canada since becoming a permanent resident counts as a full day. If you lived in Canada before landing, as a worker, student, visitor, or protected person, those days count too, but at half value, up to a maximum credit of 365 days. Any trip abroad you enter gets subtracted from your running total, since only days physically spent in Canada move you toward the 1,095-day mark. Once you fill in your PR date, your pre-PR time, and your trips, the calculator adds it all up and tells you either that you're already eligible or exactly how many days you have left to go.
