ToggleCanadian Experience Class
What is the Canadian Experience Class?
The Canadian Experience Class (CEC) is a specialized immigration program for individuals who have acquired skilled work experience in Canada and wish to transition to permanent residency. Launched in 2008, the CEC is one of the three programs managed under Canada’s Express Entry system, which ranks candidates based on the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS).
The program is particularly advantageous for temporary foreign workers and international graduates who have already integrated into the Canadian labor market.
Advantage of Canadian Experience Class
The Canadian Experience Class offers several benefits that make it an attractive option for immigrants:
- Fast Processing: Applications under the CEC are typically processed within six months, making it one of the quickest pathways to permanent residency in Canada.
- No Proof of Funds Required: Unlike other Express Entry programs, CEC applicants are not required to demonstrate proof of funds.
- Integration into Canadian Society: Since applicants already have Canadian work experience, they are more likely to integrate successfully into the Canadian job market and society.
- Ability to Combine Work Experience: Applicants can combine part-time jobs to meet the work experience requirement, providing flexibility in how they accumulate the necessary experience.
Qualifications for the CEC Program
To qualify for the Canadian Experience Class, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Work Experience: Have at least one year (or 1,560 hours) of skilled, professional, or technical work experience in Canada within the last three years. This experience must be in a job classified under the National Occupational Classification (NOC) TEER categories 0, 1, 2, or 3.
- Language Proficiency: Meet a minimum Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) of 5 for NOC TEER 2 or 3 jobs, or CLB 7 for NOC TEER 0 or 1 job.
- Residency Requirement: Plan to live outside the province of Quebec, as Quebec has its own immigration programs.
- Valid Work Authorization: The work experience must have been gained while authorized to work in Canada. Self-employment and work experience gained while studying full-time do not count towards the required work experience.
