Overview of the PTE Test
There are currently two designated language tests (CELPIP and IELTS General Training) for candidates to prove their language skills. As of the end of 2023, however, economic class candidates will be able to take PTE as the third approved exam to demonstrate their proficiency in English.
With the approval of PTE exam, there are currently 5 language tests available for economic class immigration candidates;
For English: CELPIP, IELTS and PTE
For French: TEF Canada and TCF Canada
2025 Update—You can now take an online PTE test called PTE Core. This computer-based test evaluates four key areas: speaking, writing, reading, and listening. It takes about two hours, and results are typically available within two days. A faster processing time means fewer delays in your application.
The exam format includes:
- Speaking & Writing – Takes about 50 minutes.
- Reading – Lasts 30 minutes.
- Listening – Also 30 minutes.
Rather than focusing on complex grammar rules or academic theory, the test measures real-world language use.
