Ontario May Make Some Changes to Help Immigrants Work in Their Field of Expertise

Ontario may make some changes to help immigrants work in their field of expertise, even if they are trained outside Canada.

If these changes apply, the prerequisite of Canadian work experience for getting professional licensing will be eliminated. The change target specific professions other than healthcare, such as engineers, architects, plumbers, electricians, accountants, hairstylists, teachers and early childhood educators.

An additional language test result for professional licensing will also not be needed, as long as immigrants have already submitted one for the immigration process.

Only 25 per cent of immigrants in Ontario are actually working in their field of expertise and Ontario has 293,000 vacant job positions. The changes will definitely help Ontario raise its GDP.
