That’s great news for those who want to sponsor parents and grandparents for immigration to Canada.

PGP program (Parents and Grandparents Program) allows Canadian citizens and permanent residents to sponsor their parents and grandparents to immigrate to Canada and once they are approved under this program, they will be granted permanent residence and may later apply for Canadian citizenship.

On July 20, 2021, Marco E. L. Mendicino, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, announced that Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) will accept up to 30,000 additional applications, a record number of people, to apply under the 2021 intake of the program.

IRCC will use the same random selection process (lottery) as used in previous years. They will send invitations to potential sponsors who have already submitted an interest to sponsor form in 2020. This will give additional interested sponsors the opportunity to bring their parents and grandparents to Canada.

The lottery will take place the week of September 20, 2021, over the course of 2 weeks. If invited, you will have 60 days to submit your sponsorship applications to the Canadian government.

If you’re invited to apply as part of this process, you will be able to use the new Permanent Resident Digital Intake tool, which allows applications to be submitted electronically.
