Canada invited 1,036 people through its Express Entry system on January 19. Every one of them had a nomination from a province, which added 600 points to their score. The lowest score in this draw was 745—high, but expected for candidates coming through the Provincial Nominee Program.
So far in 2022, 1,428 individuals nominated by provinces have received invitations. These draws are separate from general Express Entry rounds and tend to be smaller in size, but the stakes are often higher. A provincial nomination means a province wants you there, and the extra points nearly guarantee a shot at permanent residence.
This latest draw is part of Canada’s ongoing effort to attract people with specific skills tied to local needs. Provinces select candidates they believe will settle well and contribute quickly. For many applicants, that nomination is the turning point—and it can change everything.
