Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has issued 4,000 invitations to apply for permanent residence in a new category-based Express Entry draw. The draw specifically targeted candidates with strong French-language proficiency.
Details of the April 15 Draw
The latest round of invitations occurred on April 15, 2026, at 10:43:11 UTC. It was the second draw of 2026 targeting candidates under the French-language proficiency category. In total, 4,000 candidates from the Express Entry pool received an Invitation to Apply (ITA).
To be invited, candidates needed a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of at least 419. This score represents the minimum point threshold for this specific category and is the score of the lowest-ranked candidate who received an invitation in this round.
IRCC applied a tie-breaking rule for this draw. The cut-off was set to November 14, 2025, at 07:14:25 UTC. Candidates with a CRS score of 419 who had submitted their Express Entry profile before this specific date and time were prioritized for an invitation.

The Role of Category-Based Draws
Category-based selection allows IRCC to invite candidates with specific skills, work experience, or language abilities that align with Canada’s economic priorities and labour market needs. These draws supplement the general rounds of invitation which consider all candidates in the pool.
Strong French-language skills are a key attribute targeted by these special draws. The goal is to support the growth of Francophone communities outside of Quebec and help employers fill critical job vacancies that require French speakers.
All candidates considered for category-based draws must first be eligible for one of the three economic immigration programs managed through Express Entry. These programs are the Federal Skilled Worker Program, the Federal Skilled Trades Program, or the Canadian Experience Class. An invitation is only issued to those who meet the criteria for both a program and a specific category.
