Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada held its second Express Entry draw of the month on May 25, 2026, targeting candidates in the pool. This round exclusively invited Provincial Nominee Program candidates to apply for permanent residence.

Second May 2026 Express Entry Draw Focuses on PNP

According to IRCC, the latest round of invitations took place at 15:22:56 UTC. The government issued 334 invitations to apply for permanent residency. This specific round exclusively targeted the Provincial Nominee Program.

Candidates needed a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System score of 805 to receive an invitation. The rank required to be invited was 334 or above. Officials choose candidates based on these specific points.

IRCC applied a tie-breaking rule for this draw. The cut-off date and time was October 16, 2025 at 18:16:33 UTC. If multiple candidates had the lowest score, their profile submission date determined the outcome.

Program-specific rounds invite top-ranking candidates eligible for a specific Express Entry program. In this case, only candidates with a provincial or territorial nomination received an invitation. You must be eligible for one of the three managed programs to enter the pool.

A Sharp Contrast to Last Month's Numbers

The latest invitation figures show a significant drop compared to recent activity. Last month, IRCC issued over 15,000 invitations for permanent residence.

May has been a much quieter month for the Express Entry system. So far, the government has only held two draws. Both rounds exclusively targeted Provincial Nominee Program candidates.

IRCC follows a strict process to determine how rounds work. First, they choose the type of round they will hold. Next, they decide the exact number of candidates they need to invite.

After that, officials identify the highest-ranking candidates from the pool. These individuals must be eligible for the chosen round type. Finally, the government invites these candidates to apply for permanent residence.

General rounds usually invite top-ranking candidates from any of the three managed programs. Category-based rounds target specific economic goals set by the Minister.

However, the government chose to run program-specific rounds this month. Candidates with provincial nominations will continue to see invitations through these dedicated rounds.
