What the Canadian Experience Class is
Express Entry runs three types of rounds. These include general, program-specific, and category-based rounds. This event was a program-specific round limited to candidates eligible under the Canadian Experience Class.
The Canadian Experience Class is a program for candidates who have skilled work experience in Canada. Applicants generally need at least one year of skilled Canadian work experience. This experience must be NOC TEER 0, 1, 2 or 3.
Candidates must have gained this experience in the three years before applying. Many CEC candidates are already living and working in Canada on a work permit.
Why the CRS cut-off is 516
Unlike Provincial Nominee Program draws, CEC candidates are ranked on their base CRS score. They are evaluated without the 600-point addition that a provincial nomination adds.
That is why a CEC cut-off in the 500s is typical. In contrast, PNP cut-offs run much higher.
What the tie-breaking rule means
If more than one candidate has the lowest CRS score of 516, the cut-off is applied by a specific timestamp. The system checks the date and time each candidate submitted their Express Entry profile.
Anyone at 516 who submitted their profile before July 3, 2026 at 21:35:13 UTC was invited. Those who submitted after that timestamp were not.
What happens next for invited candidates
The government noted that the number of invitations issued was 3,000. These candidates have received an Invitation to Apply for permanent residence.
They now have a limited window to submit a complete permanent residence application.
